New title for my Blog
12 21st, 2007

I write this blog mostly for myself.  I write down things that interest me and I refer back to them more than I like to admit.  Often times in conversations I’ll make mention to something that I’ve blogged about, and then later email the person the link to my blog.

Well, I’ve been reading about getting blogs to “stand out” more and one is to create a more interesting title for the blog.  My previous title, “Kevin Cully’s Blog” wasn’t very interesting.  So I’ve changed the title.  “Long, Slow Burn” is how I’ve constructed my life so it makes a great title for my blog.

So, what does “Long, Slow Burn” mean?  It’s an outlook, a mantra.  I’ve structured my life in a low-consumerism style.  We keep our expenses low, which means that we don’t have to have a high income.  A high-income means making some life sacrifices that I’m not willing to make.  More on that later, I suppose.  Yes, I’ve been reading some other money blogs like Moolanomy and Get Rich Slowly.

I can’t say what a joy it is to walk to the mailbox and not have any bills in it.  Just junk mail. :(  It’s even better when there’s a check in the mail. :)

Anyway, how could you change your life for a long, slow, enjoyable burn?

Joining Techorati

So yesterday was the Ron Paul Money Bomb campaign of the Tea Party ‘07.  December 16th was the anniversary of the Boston Tea party and the money bomb campaign was to commemorate the protest of taxes on tea against the King of England.

Just as a reminder, the last Money Bomb campaign was held on November 5th, and raised $4 million from almost 40,000 individuals.  It was a huge success and set records for a one day fund raising event.   The bar was set to be beat on the December 16th Tea Party event.  Organizers were originally calling for 100,000 people to contribute $100 each for a total of $10 million.  They didn’t quite hit that high mark, but they did receive donations from 60,000 donors for a total of over $6 million.  Nice.

So … where is all of the press coverage?  I am NOT going to cry consipracy.  I’m just saying that this was a big deal!  I would have figured that it would have gotten greater coverage than a three paragraph mention on CNN.

Oh well.   I’m hoping that the use of that money will expose Dr. Paul’s ideals to a greater number of Americans.  Freedom is a popular thing.

We’re currently in the worst drought ever recorded in Georgia.  At this moment, a tropical storm is forming off of Bermuda.  It’s projected path is into the Gulf of Mexico.  This is great news.  I don’t want anyone to be hurt in a hurricane or anything, but we need Olga to enter the Gulf, and then take a right hand turn and hit North Georgia and hit us hard.  In fact, she can just hang out over our lakes up here and fill them up with clean fresh water.  Olga is invited to stay for as long as she wants.

Praying for rain : Didn’t work.  Hardly a drop of rain in the last month.

Olga, you’re a pretty sight to see.  Come on over and stay a while.

Yeah, I’ve heard the talk about the movie. This sounds like a whole lotta talk about nothing, in my opinion. Yes, our family has read the books and they honestly are very entertaining.

The thing to remember is that these books are fiction, adventure, fantasy based. It’s got witches and talking bears in it. I like that.
The movie is ultimately going to succeed or fail on its merits as entertainment, not its ideology. I like The Wizard of Oz and it has witches, lions, scarecrows, and flying monkeys. Now that I think about it, flying monkeys still scare me to this day!!!

Remember The DaVinci Code? A whole lot of hot air over a whole lotta nothing. The movie was a disappointment as well, and I’m a Ron Howard fan! Most people that criticized that movie never saw it or read the book. The same probably applies in this case as well. People also criticized Harry Potter fearing that we’d churn out a generation of witches and wizards. So far, we’re just seeing a bunch of kids that appreciate reading a bit more.

If any child’s religious beliefs can be shattered by a CGI polar bear on a movie screen, the parents have got bigger problems than this one film. A curious, imaginative, skeptical child is a terrible thing to waste.

So far IMDB.com is giving this one a 7 out of 10 stars. That’s huge praise comparatively. Personally, I can’t wait to see the movie.
